On The Boards - Taylor’s Creek, Virginia
This thoughtfully designed guest house serves as a serene retreat for family and friends visiting a larger estate. Nestled alongside a stunning pool, the structure is made up of three distinct pavilions, each with a clear purpose—crafted to balance openness and privacy in equal measure.
At the heart of the design is the central great room pavilion—a luminous, welcoming space that blends living, dining, and a kitchenette. Expansive accordion doors open wide to connect this communal interior directly to the pool deck, creating a seamless flow between indoors and out. It's a breezy, light-filled hub where guests can gather, dine, and unwind just steps from the water.
Flanking the great room on either side are two private bedroom pavilions, each complete with en suite baths and designed for quiet comfort. This triptych layout allows guests to enjoy shared experiences while retreating to their own personal spaces when desired.
To enhance privacy, especially when the pool is active, sliding slatted screens offer a sleek architectural solution. These movable panels provide visual separation without compromising natural light or the striking design language of the guest house.
By breaking down the overall mass into three distinct forms, this project achieves a human scale and an elegant rhythm. It’s a modern sanctuary built for connection, comfort, and carefree summer living.
